Job Purpose
As a Homelessness Housing Solution Officer, you will be responsible for conducting statutory assessments, providing advice to service users, and arranging suitable temporary accommodation. Your role is crucial in preventing homelessness and ensuring individuals have access to suitable housing solutions.
Responsibilities
- Conduct statutory assessments of homelessness under the Housing Act 1996 and Homeless Reduction Act 2017, determining eligibility, priority need, local connection, and intentional homelessness.
- Make necessary statutory decisions and formulate personalized housing plans based on service user needs.
- Provide advice on solutions to retain existing accommodation or secure suitable rehousing, including negotiating with landlords, financial assessments, income maximization, and assisting with discretionary housing payment applications.
- Arrange temporary accommodation when homelessness cannot be prevented and provide ongoing support until alternative suitable housing is secured.
- Participate in team duty rota, assess clients in the town center office, and accurately record data onto the CDP electronic record.
Person Specification:
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in undertaking housing act assessments, with a strong understanding of legislative, guidance, and policy frameworks related to housing assessments.
- Demonstrated ability to manage a busy and varied caseload effectively.
- Experience working with complex service users in a multi-agency setting and collaborating with partners.
- Proficient in applying trauma-informed principles and working with service users in a trauma-informed manner.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to provide clear advice and guidance to service users.
- Strong attention to detail and accurate record-keeping abilities.
- Flexible to work both in the office and from home, with 2-3 days per week based in Middlesbrough’s town center offices.
